Hearing Seascapes

Lei Liang & Falko Kuester

Hearing Seascapes is an ongoing project by composer Lei Liang and engineer Falko Kuester that reimagines the life and sounds of varied aquatic locales such as the Arctic and tropical coral reefs. The project stems from data collected by researchers at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and sonfies this research through the deep, resonant cracking of Arctic ice, the echolocative signals of aquatic mammals, the cacophony of coral reef systems, and more. “Hearing Seascapes” seeks to connect with people in an immersive, sensorial manner that inspires future generations to listen to and preserve our critically important ocean systems and environments.
